Bret Beattie is a 25 year trial lawyer with experience in jury trials, court trials, arbitrations and appeals in multiple states. His diverse experience covers substantive practice areas involving debtor-creditor rights, wrongful death, securities fraud, breaches of fiduciary duty, intellectual property , entertainment, products liability, toxic torts, business and injury disputes.
As a former CPA and auditor in the Los Angeles entertainment industry he frequently calls on a breadth of experience to bring business solutions to disputes before resorting to litigation. He brings a special expertise to the handling of financial data and the use of forensic investigators as expert witnesses. Before starting The Bret Beattie Law Firm, LLC in Colorado in 2008, he served as trial counsel in large Los Angeles and Dallas law firms, and also served as in-house counsel to a privately held Texas banking group.
After 10 years of trial practice in Los Angeles, Bret earned his LL.M focused on securities fraud, corporate finance and bankruptcy at Southern Methodist University, Dedman School of Law.
In 2002 Bret joined the prestigious McKool Smith law firm in Dallas, Texas where he acted as special litigation counsel to the Official Unsecured Creditor's Committee in In re: Enron Corporation, etc. The litigation following the collapse of the Houston based energy giant that involved a morass of misrepresentation, fraud and massively financial frauds leading to $24 billion in clams. In 2005 he published The New Minefield: the Scheme Theory of Liability Comes of Age in the post- Enron Era, 34 Sec.Reg.L.J. 92, (2006). The work focused on aiding and abetting liability of professionals in securities fraud cases. Today Bret represents large and small businesses and individual clients in business and injury cases throughout California and Colorado.
